1/ Klaytn is the (un)official blockchain of S. Korea
Launched in 2019, it's:
• One of the 4 blockchains supported by OpenSea
• 14th by TVL in #DeFi
• $KLAY is 66th by market cap
Yet few outside of S. Korea heard about it.
A 🧵from Korea Blockchain Week
2/ Klatyn is backed by Kakao - Facebook of Korea.
Kakao is the most used Korean messaging app with 53 million active users.
And those users can use Klaytn's blockchain wallet in the Kakao App!
Imagine having an Ethereum wallet in Facebook's Messenger or WhatsApp.
3/ Originally a fork of #Ethereum, Klatyn focuses on scalability and performance via Governance Council (GC) - a chosen group of node operators.
It's operators are DAOs and multinational organizations such as:
• LG
• MakerDAO
• Binance
• Hashed/Ozys
• Kakao
and more...
4/ Thanks to impressive backers, Klaytn was the second blockchain integrated on the OpenSea!
Even before Polygon or Solana..
As I was told by their team member at KBW, they approached OpenSea at its early days when #NFTs were not so hot.
5/Klaytn's #DeFi ecosystem has taken a hit in April.
TVL dropped from $1.2B to the current $415M.
The most popular dApps are:
• DEXes @KLAYswap and @kokonutswap
• Lending market @klapfinance
• Liquid KLAY staking
Though KlaySwap dominates 50% of the TVL.
4/With this set up in mind, Klaytn is targeting the Metaverse.
Chief Klaytn Officer @seo_sangmin presented his vision and positioning of Klaytn within the crypto ecosystem at @kbwofficial
I attended his Keynote speech and this is what he had to say 👇
5/ Forget TPS.
Seemless Metaverse UX on blockchain requires low latency.
Transaction latency = The time that a transaction was included in a block — The time that the transaction was submitted to the network.
It's the time delay between an input and the received output.
6/ According to Klaytn's own research, Klaytn had the lowest transaction latency, averaging at 2.1 seconds.
Followed by:
#NEAR between 2 to 5 s
#Solana between 2 to 30 s...
...while #Polygon averaged 10.9 seconds, but also regularly exceeded 100 seconds.
7/What's more, Klaytn boasts of 1 second block generation time and immediate time-to-finality confirmation.
For comparison, $ETH requires 14 network confirmations to be included in in a block on the blockchain.
8/Still, it does not make Klaytn the fastest blockchain when calculated by Transactions per second (TPS).
At 4k TPS it is far behind #polygon, #fantom or #solana though Klaytn is planning to improve.
9/Finally, Klaytn is preparing for Klaytn 2.0.
It includes L2 solutions for scaling, Metaverse package, creating a DAO of DAOs and more..
