10 Lessons from Brain Rules For Work
(thread)
1) Every action you take (or don't take) is an economic choice your brain is guessing when to spend resources and when to save them.
2) Teams are more productive,
but only if you have the right people.
3) Procrastination is an avoidance of negative emotions. If meetings drain you emotionally, schedule them when you have more energy probably in the morning.
4) Take a break, if you can, every ninety minutes even better if you can take a break outside.
5) Failure should be an option
as long as you learn from it.
6) If you aren't experiencing failure, then you are making a far worse mistake: you are being driven by the desire to avoid it.
7) Keep dominance-style leadership behaviours to a minimum. Too many can create fearful and often miserable work environments for employees.
8) Power is like fire. It can cook your food or burn your house down.
9) Prepare employees who are about to acquire power (via promotions and raises) by warning them about the potential pitfalls of power. Doing so makes them less
likely to fall victim to those pitfalls.
10) Capture your audience's emotion, and you will have their attention
