@CaseyNewton seriously though this is what L2s are for, i feel like that particular concern is solvable
the big question is what content and community will thrive there, and what type of audience is interested in it

@CaseyNewton i subscribe to the @eugenewei theory that new social networks need to make it easier for a certain type of person to accumulate social capital in a new way
if this is just "twitter but decentralized" (which it might not be, but it currently looks like) then it likely won't work

@CaseyNewton @eugenewei the cool thing is what new content formats, network structures, discovery mechanisms, etc could be invented by users in the context of an open protocol
