I have no problem with celebrating the bravery of the Ukrainian people.
But for the PM to present Ukraine as a beacon of democracy is demonstrably false.
Banning the Russian language, opposition news channels, and deposing leaders via coup, is not democratic at all.
Why lie.
And are we forgetting Ukraine is ranked as the 2nd most corrupt country in Europe, above RUSSIA of all places.
Or the questions around the veracity of Zelensky’s election?
Or the fact he has a Neo-Nazi militia leading the PR fight in his war?
Let’s not be disingenuous.
For those who will call me a liar RE the Neo-Nazi Asov battalion leading the PR fight, with videos they’ve produced regularly being officially used. They’ve also killed Russian generals and are based in Mariupol. telegraph.co.uk
Some comments by the founder of Azov, Andriy Biletsky.
‘In his arguably most quoted interview he spoke about Ukraine’s “historic mission in this century to lead white peoples of the world on their last Crusade against Jew-led Untermensch”.
NONE OF THIS is intended to justify Putin’s invasion by the way.
I’m simply telling you the truth. Ukraine is not a beacon of democracy on Russia’s doorstep.
In fact, it’s run very much similar to Russia. Maybe that’s how Zelensky has his own network of offshore companies. 🤔
“The documents also show that just before he [Zelensky] was elected, he gifted his stake in a key offshore company, the British Virgin Islands-registered Maltex Multicapital Corp., to his business partner — soon to be his top presidential aide…’ (1/2)
‘And in spite of giving up his shares, the documents show that an arrangement was soon made that would allow the offshore to keep paying dividends to a company that now belongs to his wife.’ (2/2)
In the article by the Telegraph I posted it states that in terms of official political traction, the Neo-Nazis have very little. I am sorry to say though that it’s simply a fact that they are very active in this war, have been s since 2014 and are leading the PR campaign.
And it’s also a fact that there has been a concerted effort to get rid of the Russian language in Ukraine using political manoeuvring. E.g.: google.com
‘Lawmakers in 2019 passed legislation to cement Ukrainian as the country's primary language, ordering middle schools that taught in Russian and other minority languages to make the switch and mandating Ukrainian versions of online stores.’ 1/3
An article of the laws that entered into force in January goes further, obliging shops, restaurants and the service industry to engage customers in Ukrainian unless clients specifically ask to switch.
2/3
Anyone caught violating the new legislation twice within one year could be fined 200 euros ($235), almost half of the average salary in the country. No one has been penalised so far.

By Human Rights Watch: hrw.org
‘There are concerns about whether guarantees for minority languages are sufficient. The Venice Commission, the Council of Europe’s top advisory body on constitutional matters, said that several of the law’s articles, including article 25,…’ (1/2)
“failed to strike a fair balance” between promoting the Ukrainian language and safeguarding minorities’ linguistic rights. (2/2)
Oh and let’s not forget:
euronews.com
Discrimination against the unvaccinated in public life and mandatory jabs.
Very democratic 🤡
Give me a break you disingenuous clowns.
And again, regarding my comment about the 2014 coup. Ukraine’s elections in 2004 and 2010 had very similar voting patterns. 2004 was for a pro-West President, Viktor Yushchenko. (1/3)
google.com
In 2010, Russian backed Viktor Yanukovych won the presidential election. Regardless of whether or not you think this is right, based upon the available facts, this election was fair according to the available facts.. (2/3)
‘The Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) said there were no indications of serious fraud and described the vote as an "impressive display" of democracy.’ (3/3)
google.com
So therefore, to say a coup is fine ‘because Russia’ is a bad faith and disingenuous argument.
I am not saying this because I am cheerleading for any one side.
I am simply asking for objectivity instead of propaganda.
Night guys xx
RE banning opposition channels.. google.com
You can say ‘Russia-backed’ therefore the ban is fine. But deciding something is ‘disinformation’ instead of countering these channels with more robust debate and ideas is quite simply censorship, especially taking into consideration the vast differences between the West & East.
Oh yeah, some more uncomfortable facts for those with the EU flag sounding off in my mentions…
The European Union reprimanded the move to ban opposition TV channels.
google.com
The NewsOne, ZIK and 112 Ukraine news channels were barred from broadcasting in February as a threat to national security. President Zelensky, 43, accused them of peddling Russian propaganda but critics say he is “cleansing” Ukraine of critical media
“We thought that the president’s media background would predispose them to solve questions of information and freedom of speech like media types who understand these subjects well,” said Sergiy Tomilenko, head of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine… (1/3)
“…But unfortunately we see otherwise.”
‘The past four months have seen a surge of attempts to control the media. This included pressure on publication owners, demands to political talk shows, attempts to cancel the screening of a documentary film and threats of criminal… 2/3
‘…prosecution against media outlets and journalists.’
‘A bill threatening media independence has also been registered during Zelensky’s tenure and awaits review by parliament. The government wants to expand funding for tame state media to amplify its message.’ (3/3)
SO democratic! I honestly just love how democratic Ukraine is. Not similar to the authoritarian regime of Russia in any way, shape, or form. Promise!
