WTF is an NFT project WHITELIST?
In my WA group, I've had lots of people ask questions about Whitelist (WL)
Things like, how does it work, how can one get it, where can one get it, etc; are some of the questions newbies usually ask.
So, here is how the NFT WL thing works.

From the dictionary, a whitelist is a list of "the favoured or approved." To get Whitelisted then is to get approved.

The word takes on a new meaning in the NFT world. Here, to be whitelisted means to be selected for a favourable position.

WL positions often have incentives attached to them.
Different projects take on different approaches to WL and give it different meaning. None of these incentives are the same or static.
Each project defines both the name of the role and the good thing attached to the role.

Let's say an NFT project has a mint price of 0.1 Eth, the project may choose to reserve tokens for early adopters or strong supporters. These people are marked out in the discord group by being given roles.

By the WL method. A whitelisted person for such project may then be able to buy that NFT at say 0.05 Eth. The WL conditions and benefit are determined by the team.

To mark or set apart some people. There is no exact name for this WL. But having some of the designed roles would mean that the team has WL you. Here are some examples:
In @PeekABooGameNFT discord, a WL role has the tag "shadows," which means that one with that role has been WL.

In @smolizards Discord, WL takes the form below.
The person below is Whitelisted, and by implication will be minting a smolizard for free (the incentive for the whitelisted members) because that's the incentive attached to getting WL on the project.

SUMMARY
Always check the FAQ channel and announcements channel when you join a Discord group, so that you'll know things about the project and how you can get WL.
This WL thing is a trend right now, especially because of how hyped presale mints are for NFTs. Soon, they'll fade

However, you can try to get as many of the spots as possible, because they put you ahead of others. But always DYOR. That you've a WL doesn't mean that the project is cool and you've to mint it.
