Continuing the thread series on the Vedic Devtas of each of the 27 Nakshatras 🕉️🔥
The 2nd Nakshatra in zodiac is Bharani Nakshatra, spanning 13.21-26.40 deg Aries/Mesh Rashi. Its ruling deity is Yamaraja/Yama.

2)
In Rigveda 10.16.9, Yama is called the 'king of the d3ad'.
Atharvaveda 6.28.3 also stresses upon Yamaraja's role as the same. In addition, it calls Yamaraja as 'principal among the Devas'.
3)
Atharvaveda 4.40.2 indicates Yamaraja as the Dikpala (lord/guardian of the direction) of South.
Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 3.9.21 also mentions Yamaraj's direction as south.
4)
Yamaraja is also called 'Antak' in Atharvaveda 8.1.1
5)
Nirukta 10.19 explains the etymology/meaning of 'Yama', as providing 'rest' (i.e. ultimate rest of the Sharir) to the living beings.
A/c to Atharvaveda 18.2.27, Mrityu is Yama's messenger, & is said to possess great wisdom. Mrityu conveys the prana of dead beings to Yama.
6)
Atharvaveda 7.73.1 reveals interesting thing about Yamaraja from a Jyotish point of view. It indicates here the association or partnership of Niruti/Nirti with Mrityu.
Mrityu = Bharni-related. Nirti = lord of Mula nakshatra.
7)
Hence, AV 7.73.1 gives valuable clue regarding yogas of partnership/association of people having Bharani & Mula nakshatras. #VedicJyotish
8)
As noted about wisdom of Yamaraja earlier, it becomes evident in the Katha Upanishad (or Kathopanishad, as some call it in compound form)
Yamaraja gives wisdom regarding the nature of Atman, theory of karma & rebirth to the Nachiketas. (Ref - wisdomlib.org)
9)
The Trayodashi (13th Tithi of lunar fortnight) of Margashirsha month is assigned as Yamadarshan Trayodashi.
If one checks the nakshatra of this particular tithi - lo & behold - it falls in Yamaraj's Bharani nakshatra! (Refer the screenshot below of 16 Dec 2021 panchang)
10)
According to Mahabharat Vana Parva, Yamaraja is the father of Yudhishthira, and is said to be the lord of justice. This is just another confirmation of what's been noted in Atharvaveda 6.28.3
10)
In summary, Yamaraja grants a person great wisdom, sense of judgement & discretion, as well as interest in the matters related to d3ath.
e.g. If a benefic Graha is placed in Bharani, its Dasha will be fruitful in south direction; and vice versa.
11)
Yamaraja being the devta of justice & d3ath, one with good Bharani nakshatra placement may become lawyer/expert in matter of disputes after a person's d3ath (e.g. inheritances, insurance, etc.)
Many such real world applications can be derived. #Jyotish #Vedas #Upanishads 🙏
