Tammy Abraham / Tactical Analysis (vs Salernitana) 🟡🔴

Salernitana's defense had some troubles concerning the alignment, and Tammy took,profit on it to get a position just behind left central defender to distrub man marking.

Then, it was far easier to move right into the first post when there was a cross situation. Many similar situations happened for Roma's new striker. All came from wrong alignment from defense.

Another relevant aspect of Abraham's liberty under Mourinho : dezoning to the left or right side of the pitch. This move is not accompanied by central defenders.
Triangle creation in build up to get numerical superiority (3v2).

Wingers, thanks to Abraham's dezoning, came inside penalty box to take Tammy's positionin, which helped Tammy to end up with a shoot possibility.
Off ball movements are key here to explain why Tammy had a shot opportunity.

Again, Abraham's run is possible because of wrong defense alignment. Tammy's objective is to bring vertical pass line with his run.
When there is no opportunity to break defensive lines vertically, then he starts dezoning.

Inverting positions with Pellegrini (who has frequently taken this false 9 position) jeopardized many defensive patterns from Salernitana, because right back had to mark Abraham in cross situations like this one.

Abraham's drop off to attract central defender and open space's window was definitely accurate, but zonal marking from Salerno's defense was too efficient in first half.

As I said before, when a vertical pass could be done, Tammy automatically started diagonal run. Thanks to his versatile positioning, he could start his runs without a strong man-marking.
