How a Kiwi woman revealed the slavish mindset of secular Hindus.
1. Flaxen haired Robyn is an amazing 20something. A noble soul whom Saraswati, Lakshmi and Aphrodite have blessed, she's open minded and inquisitive about India. She joined an Urdu Poetry group on Facebook.
1. Flaxen haired Robyn is an amazing 20something. A noble soul whom Saraswati, Lakshmi and Aphrodite have blessed, she's open minded and inquisitive about India. She joined an Urdu Poetry group on Facebook.
2. She's no wide eyed liberal. She knows Urdu comes from the Turkic word ordu (army) or orda and started as the "language of the camp" from the mixture of Turki and Hindi. It is actually pronounced Ud-dhoo. She joined to find out why Indians were fawning over invader's language.
3. Initially she just watched the interactions in the group. She saw how people with names like Sanjiv, Manish, Pradeep were ingratiating themselves before Pakistanis and Indian Muslims, saying, "Bhaijaan, you gave us Urdu, Lucknow kebabs. Dil maange more. Wanna visit Lahore."
4. Pakistanis would reply, "Please visit Lahore and enjoy our legendary hospitality. You will forget India. Come soon. Der na kren." (This was exasperating for me because I had to translate the non English words for Robyn. Have to admit, Pakistaniyo ki spelling is legendary 😆)
5. After observing the group for a few days, Robyn wrote a comment: "Isn't Urdu an effeminate language of foreign invaders? Don't you think poetry that solely dwells upon unrequited love shows the defeatist mentality of the people who like Urdu? Open to comments."
6. If a Hindu had written this comment, he'd be ripped apart by the seculars as "Sanghi, get lost. Admin, remove this hater." But seculars being seculars, the comments were ingratiating. One comment: "No maam, Urdu is a very refined language. Spoken by cultured people."
7. Another: "Maam, Muslims civilised India. Gave us beautiful language, shero shayari, kebabs, Lucknow manners. We were living in dark age of caste but Islamic culture created synthesis and modernity. Mughals made India rich country, have us Taj. Thanks maam."
8. Robyn replied: "You guys should be ashamed of yourself, describing foreign invaders as great. I'm part of numerous language groups but only in India do I see Indians admiring brutal killers as nation builders. Urdu is an ordinary language, can't compare with Indian languages."
9. Despite this, nobody attacked her. Comments flowed in from secular Hindus, "Please maam, look at Urdu with open eyes. You seem like a nice person. Be broadminded. It is the language of the nobility."
10. And then came the messages from secular tharkis. "Please visit India. I can take you to Lucknow and show you real Urdu culture and music." Or "Are you single? I can be your host if you are interested in visiting." And: "I like your pic. Let's connect. I can come to NZ."
11. Robyn left the group after creating quite a commotion. She told me, "I can't ever imagine Jews joining a Wagner Page. But seeing so many Hindus cheering for Urdu and fawning over brutal invaders shows a deep rooted sense of inferiority among large sections of Indians."
