The Palestinian struggle was always painted to me as a patriotic nationalistic stance for Arabs and a cause for Muslims. Without understanding exactly why Israel is the enemy - broadly only had disturbing images and childhood songs on Palestine, I had to take the back door
The back door, as in understand the Jewish Arab experience to understand that this is not religious. I was disturbed when I understood what Arab Jews were also treated in such a vile way. I had to see the Zionist ideology & propaganda formulating through Arab Jewβs eyes to
understand the scale of atrocities caused. This helped me make sense & see ethnic cleansing+ colonialism directly. I learnt how Palestinians live daily through apartheid, occupation, blockade this is not widely taught or shown. It was an eye opener. This is why I always make such
a firm stance that this is not a nationalistic Arab &/or Muslim cause. Itβs erases so much context and nuance in the struggle for liberation. I keep learning. If people just understood how Palestinians lived daily under this brutal occupation it would be as clear as day & night.
