The Darfur Lawyers' Association called on the civil and revolutionary forces to press for the transfer of the Presidency of the Sovereign Council to the civilian component, to stop its executive expansion.
The constitutional document stipulated that the sovereign council would be headed by a member of the military component for a period of 18 months ending on May 21, while the rest of the transition period would be headed by a civilian from the Sovereignty Council.
An amendment to the constitutional document on November 3, 2020, added a year to the initially scheduled transition period of 39 months, to be counted from the day the peace agreement was signed on October 3, 2020,
but the issue of transferring the presidency of the Sovereign Council to the civilian component was not included in the amendments.
