I’m playing @tablerounds with echocardiogram, abscess, proteinuria, CKD, & leukopenia! Explore #TableRoundsConnections to discover my teaching points #MedEd #MedTwitter
Infective endocarditis has several classic sequelae, intracardiac abscess (detectable by echo) being one of them. Additionally, embolism of left-sided vegetation may lead to glomerulonephritis, which may cause CKD. (Framework by @AndreMansoor.)
Certain etiologies of nephrotic syndrome (presenting w/ proteinuria) like membranous lupus nephropathy (class V lupus nephritis) may lead to CKD. The proteinuria of SLE may be accompanied by other systemic SLE complications, like pericardial effusion (detectable by echo)!
Finally, abscess c/b sepsis may lead to leukopenia on the CBC. Patients with sepsis may have increased or decreased WBCs: sometimes, WBCs are normal. In this case, looking at neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio can be used as evidence of physio stress! More here: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
