Who are the most abused women in South Asia? And who abuses them?

As per the abuse data collected from Twitter, the most abused women in South Asia are mostly women political leaders @priyankagandhi, @MaryamNSharif, @evattey @Asli_Jacqueline, @taslimanasreen and @PresidentofNP (2/12)
Within South Asia there are significant differences in level of abuse-
Indian & Pakistanis came out as most abusive. The Pakistanis are highest in per capita abusers.

#Nepal is the cleanest social media space, followed by #SriLanka, #Bangladesh and #Maldives. (4/12)
While the word cloud for each country varied with language and culture, some key themes remain same – the language of love and abuse seems universal. (5/12)
Who are the abusers?
As expected in case of women politicians its mostly their opposition people. In case of activists, it’s mostly ‘nationalists’. A data base of abusers is enclosed in the Annexure-1 of the detailed report. (6/12)
While women in all the field get abused women in the field of politics, activism and media are more prone to online violence- followed by entertainment and sports sector. The abuses a women faces is directly proportional to how strong views she expresses online. (7/12)
Indian social media continues to be toxic, targeting women along the religious & caste lines in addition to the abuses that they bestow upon for the virtue of being women. Media sector provides max fuel. The political leaders, activists & even female in sports are not spared 8/12
A special case study documents the abuse hurled towards #AuratMarch held in Pakistan The objective was to study whether the abuse is personal. Turns out, it’s not The abuse is essentially determined by the perceived threat to ‘society, culture or nation’, as the case may be(9/12)
The amount of hatred towards #AuratMarch was so much that accounts were created a week before Aurat March especially for the purpose of abusing. It is evident from the spike in the graph showing the account created by dates. (10/12)

Another interesting study was Disha Ravi’s case, showing double standards of Indians towards men n women in similar situation, apart from being abusive. Disha received much vitriolic abuse compared to almost nil abuse for Shantanu. (11/12)
