Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali (d.795) said regarding those who bring a popular objection to the nuzool:
“And some of those who know [astrology] objected to the hadith of the Descent (nuzool) in the last third of the night. They said: ‘The last third of the night differs depending on the
country one is in so it is impossible for the nuzool to occur in one particular time period’.
And the hideousness of this objection is axiomatically known from the religion of Islam. And if the Messenger ﷺ or his Guiding Caliphs had heard this question they wouldn’t debate
with the one making it. Rather they would hasten in punishing him and grouping him with the opposing hypocrite deniers”
[Fadhl ‘Ilm as-Salaf ‘Ala ‘Ilm al-Khalaf p.38-39]
The reason why the question is incorrect is because the questioner automatically assumes that Allah is a incapable of descending how He wills in every time and place. Similar to the one who says “How can Allah answer the dua of billions of people at the same time?”
Another objection they make is that the nuzool would necessitate that Allah leaves the Throne. And if the nuzool is occurring in every time and place that Allah would never be Above the Throne.
And this is even worse than the first objection because the questioner
assumes that Allah descends the way that a Jism (body) does. Such that Allah is encompassed by the area He is in (سبحانه وتعالى عن ذلك). And this is the greatest tamtheel. Because this is what necessitates the nuzool of the created beings.
There is nothing like Allah ﷻ and
He does as He wills in whatever manner (kayf) He wills without that resembling that of creation nor being necessitated by what necessitates creation. The same way his Knowledge isn’t necessitated by what necessitates the knowledge of creation (ignorance, forgetting, learning etc)
The same goes for all His actions and attributes.
