Today is my last day here! It’s been really fun sharing with you my research on Britain’s political relationship w Bahrain especially in the last ten years before Britain’s formal withdrawal from the region. I’ll end with some concluding remarks & further reading ~RAR
Despite withdrawal, Britain remained committed to Bahrain’s defence (similar treaties were made with post-independence Malaya & Brunei) & their relationship has continued but not without controversy. Least of all, the brutal hand of Ian Henderson against Bahrainis ~RAR
The political relationship remains close, fronted by the relationship between the monarchs of #Britain & #Bahrain. Last year, the Queen came under some criticism for hosting King Hamad in light of political and religious suppression in Bahrain ~RAR
Still, Britain remains a close ally to Bahrain, with a significant naval presence and continued diplomatic relations in spite of Bahrain’s domestic and regional controversies. This is rooted in history, mutual need, & to some extent, British power projection in the region ~RAR
