Today, Tony Fauci highlighted how more we need to learn about children w/ #COVID19
Reviewing some things we do know here:
1. It can be deadly, in healthy kids, even though that's unusual.
Even a 3-week old baby required intubation
2. As young as a 26-week preemie has been reported
3. A report yesterday of 48 kids in the ICU in the US and Canada
8 of the children were perfectly healthy before presentation
4. Children can transmit #COVID19. It's not common and it's understudied. @DFTBubbles has published outstanding reports on this topic but one was grossly misinterpreted by the media giving a false impressing to the contrary
5. The number of reports of a hyper inflammatory syndrome, a Kawasaki ("like") condition have markedly increased in recent days

6. We don't know why children respond to #SARSCov2 infection so well relative to adults. This recent essay explored the potential reasons, especially from an immunology perspective
7. A recent thread on the infrequent occurrence of significant illness in kids , but the same viral load as in adults
8. Asymptomatic infections in children can occur, as pointed out above, and in this large series from China
