A bit about children with #COVID19.
1. It's very true that they're much less likely to get very sick

2. In this extensive contact tracing report from yesterday thelancet.com @TheLancetInfDis secondary infections ("attack rate") were much more mild in children, but also without fever and symptoms that could be missed
3. All of the studies to date suggest that viral load in individuals who are infected w/ #COVID19 are similar, irrespective of symptomatic status
That also suggests that many children are capable of being asymptomatic carriers for spread
4. We learned yesterday about infants in France with atypical presentations @TheLancet
and we know in the US there have been infants as young as 6-weeks die from #COVID19
5. Any thinking that infants or children, on an absolute basis, cannot get extremely ill or die is flawed-just that it's very low. It cannot be predicted.
Further, their potential role as asymptomatic carriers needs to be respected and taken into account for reopening strategies
6. Adding this report from today's @guardian
theguardian.com
which bespeaks there's much more to learn about kids w/ #COVID19
7. Very important new data about children vs adults from @c_drosten
No difference in viral load
8. More on the possibility that #COVID19 could induce the rare Kawasaki disease, a serious condition w/ inflammation and aneurysms of the heart's arteries and elsewhere in the body. A jump in cases in Italy & UK.
