HOW FOOD WORKS
This is a colorful book that presents a huge amount of information in a very appealing way. The art designers, illustrators and editors made a great job that makes you buy this book once you spot it on the shelve.
Everything related to food has a tip included about it in this book starting with "Flavor"; Quote:  We eat food not because we need to, but because we enjoy it.
The smell of the food can vary from the taste, because when food is in your mouth, scent molecules travel up the back of the throat rather than through the nose".
Going on to the different classifications of food. In this book:
Low-Carbs are believed to cause mood swings as they have a chemical that stabilizes moods.
Fibers on the other hand are either water-soluble like fruits and root vegetables that prevent constipation, or insoluble like serials and seeds that keep the bowels healthy.
Water-soluble vitamins that you have to have them continuously in your diet and fat-soluble that can be stored in your body. And so when you take these fat-soluble supplements, you should have them after a fatty meal for better absorption.
Whole food: an apple can lose its vitamin C content when chopped, as it reacts with oxygen.
The book covers how food is processed, the additives added and the use of each, how food is cooked according to its type, different types of meat cuts, sea food, diary products, bread and grains, Gluten and soya and many more.
Most interesting, the book mentioned the types of Super foods, Phytochemicals, herbs and spices and health claims to each of them.
According to the type of tea you are drinking, different water temperatures shall be used and never reaches above boiling temperature.
Fruit juices are claimed to contribute in tooth decay as sugar from large amount of the fruit is concentrated in a smaller volume, resulting in a very high sugar content.
On the other hand, blended vegetable soup is better than solid food with water as it stays in the stomach longer, inhibiting the release of gherkin "the hunger hormone".
And then comes the Chili part, a huge chili drawing sliced and the measure of heat is illustrated on it by scoville heat units SHU.
It is a very informative book in an artistic and simplified demonstration of the knowledge concerning different kinds of food, food processing, preservation and transportation. You can read it anytime and you can find specific information easily.
